About Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking
Available Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking can help you avoid or reduce the severity of an intersection collision with a detected cross-traffic vehicle. It provides alerts and can even automatically provide hard emergency braking or enhance the driver’s hard braking.
What is Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking?
- When your vehicle is in a FORWARD gear, Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking uses a camera to look ahead of your vehicle and monitor cross traffic vehicles.
- The feature is designed to activate when you’re near a detected vehicle that is approaching too quickly from the right or left side and may be just seconds away from a potential collision (for example, if the oncoming vehicle blew through a stop sign).
- In these situations, Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking is designed to warn you with a flashing red windshield “Collision Alert” along with eight high-pitched front left or front right beeps (depending on which side of you the system detects an approaching vehicle).
- If your vehicle is equipped with a Safety Alert Seat, you can choose to receive Safety Alert Seat pulses on the left/right side of the seat or high-pitched beeps, but not both.
- If you don’t respond fast enough to a cross-traffic vehicle or if the situation happens suddenly, Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking may automatically apply hard emergency braking or enhance your hard braking.
- On some vehicles, Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking can also engage when you’re making left turns at low speeds.
- If an oncoming vehicle is detected in your path while you’re turning left, the feature will also alert you and apply hard emergency braking or enhance your hard braking if needed to avoid or reduce the severity of a collision.
- You can override automatic braking at any time by pressing the accelerator if it is safe to do so. If the system slows your vehicle to a complete stop, you can release the brakes with the Electric Parking Brake button (if your vehicle is equipped with the Electric Parking Brake) or by firmly pressing the accelerator pedal if it is safe to do so.
- This feature can be turned on and off through the vehicle’s Settings menu under the Collision Detection Systems submenu.
Weather conditions can affect performance
- Conditions that are associated with low visibility, such as fog, rain, snow or road spray, may reduce the performance of the system.
- If the windshield behind the rearview mirror is obstructed in any way or not properly cleaned, the system might not perform as expected.
- Even with Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking, remain attentive of cross traffic. No safety system can take the place of an alert and engaged driver.
Safety or driver assistance features are no substitute for the driver’s responsibility to operate the vehicle in a safe manner. The driver should remain attentive to traffic, surroundings and road conditions at all times. Visibility, weather and road conditions may affect feature performance. Read the vehicle Owner’s Manual for more important feature limitations and information.
